The same clay movement that shifts foundations also drops driveways, sidewalks, patios, and garage slabs — a settled slab section with a trip-hazard lip, a driveway pitching toward the garage, a patio tilting back toward the house and draining against the foundation. Tearing out and repouring concrete is expensive and slow; lifting the existing slab back into place usually costs a fraction as much and is walkable the same day.

How polyurethane lifting works

Small (penny-sized) holes are drilled through the settled slab, and a two-part polyurethane foam is injected beneath it. The foam expands, fills the voids that let the slab settle, and lifts the concrete back toward its original position with fine control. Holes are patched, and the foam cures within minutes — cars back on a driveway the same day. It’s the modern successor to mudjacking (pumping a cement slurry), lifting with far less added weight and smaller holes.

Where it works — and where it doesn’t

Good candidates: settled but intact slab sections — driveways, walks, patios, pool decks, garage floors, steps. Poor candidates: badly cracked, crumbling concrete (lifting broken pieces reassembles a broken slab — replacement is honest advice there) and slabs settled because of an active water problem that hasn’t been fixed (fix the drainage first, or the new void re-forms).

What affects your price

Square footage and how far the slab has dropped drive foam volume, which drives cost. Access and slab thickness matter less than people expect. We quote per area with the lift target stated — and if a slab is a poor candidate, we’ll say so and price what replacement would run instead so you can compare honestly.
